Super Fluid Extraction by University Putra Malaysia

Unlocking Agarwood Potential: SFE at UPM with Dadvance Agarwood Solutions

Through the invitation by collaborator Dr.Chan from Taylor’s University, today we had the opportunity to visit the University Putra Malaysia – the third-best university in Malaysia. The visit is to understand and explore the opportunity to utilize SFE known as Supercritical Fluid Extraction in the agarwood extraction process offering another profile of agarwood liquid to the market. Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) has been widely used in recent years in the chemical, food, and pharmaceutical industries.

The SFE facility in UPM is the largest in Malaysia and they are known to be one of the pioneers in the SFE in Malaysia.

Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) has been widely used for extracting flavor and fragrance compounds from complex matrices without the use of organic solvents. This method is based on the use of gases at determined conditions of pressure and temperature, known as supercritical region. At these conditions, gases can acquire solvent properties that are superior to those of liquid solvents.

Compared to many methods based on conventional liquid extraction, SFE offers speed and cleaner extracts, decreasing the need for external clean-up steps. This cuts the total costs of analysis due to reduced labor-intensiveness. There is also an environmental advantage, as harmless extraction fluids which are food grade are being only used throughout the process.

At the forefront of sustainability, Dadvance Agarwood Solutions stands as a leader in pushing Malaysia’s agarwood industry to new heights. Beyond the perfume industry, we’re actively diversifying our strengths into pharmaceuticals and the flavoring sector. Join us in this journey of innovation and eco-conscious growth, as we redefine the possibilities of agarwood on a global scale.”

If you are interested in exploring SFE with your raw materials you are welcome to contact Ms.Fizreena or alternatively, you can walk into their facility at the Faculty of Food Science and Technology.
